What You Need To Know About Microblading

Have you developed a little brow envy? It seems like everyone on Instagram has magically grown the perfect set of eyebrows. So what’s their secret? Well it might have something to do with a procedure called microblading.

What is microblading?

Microblading is the most natural looking semi-permanent eyebrow procedure. Now don’t run screaming when we mention the word tattoo. It’s not permanent and it doesn’t hurt as much as an actual tattoo. With microblading, a hand tool consisting of small needles in a row deposits pigment to the skin in small strokes, mimicking the appearance of individual hairs. This creates a very natural looking eyebrow as the colour implanted is close to the skin’s surface.

What are the benefits of microblading?

Microblading is a great way to achieve perfect and full eyebrows that won't smudge. Why spend ages trying to create a perfect arch in the mirror with an eyebrow pencil when you can get beautiful brows that stay beautiful even after you’ve been swimming, showered or had a big night out!

Are microblading eyebrows permanent?

Microblading is a semi permanent cosmetic tattoo procedure. Although the exact length microblading lasts depends on how individual skin retains the pigment, the procedure often lasts for up to 12-18 months!

What to expect when booking in for microblading

When you book in for microblading, you’ll be given pre-care instructions that are designed and MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED to limit bleeding and sensitivity during the procedure. It is extremely important to follow these microblading pre-care instructions as excessive bleeding and sensitivity during the treatment  will dilute and expel the pigment color, leading to poor results.

Every effort is made to ensure you’re comfortable

Here are some things to note before booking in your microblading treatment:

  • Having this treatment during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort.

  • If you are a frequent smoker or "sun worshipper" anesthetics used during the treatment may not last as long and also can lead to poor retention and poor lasting results.

  • If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.

A numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes before the procedure. Every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during  the procedure. The discomfort is relative as everyone has a different level of sensitivity. Most clients are usually pleased to discover that it is no more painful than tweezing or threading! As with any tattoo, mild discomfort and slight swelling should be expected.

Once your microblading procedure is completed and healed, you will be able to enjoy activities like working out and swimming without the worry of smudged brows. Make sure you follow the microblading aftercare instructions given to you for best results. Although the exact length microblading lasts depends on how individual skin retains the pigment, the procedure often lasts for up to 12-18 months!

Is microblading suitable for me?

Microblading is not suitable for everyone. If you have extremely oily skin,  microblading may NOT work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hairstrokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered instead of a crisp hair stroke appearance. You may be a better fit for a “ Powder Brow”.

Before booking in an appointment, it is recommended that you check whether you are able to have your brows microbladed. There are certain conditions or treatments which may affect whether you are a suitable candidate. Our pre-appointment information will let you know if you can book in.
